The presentation ceremony for the 4th Tikhomirov Award took place in Moscow. This prestigious award was established in 2022 to honor the memory of Boris Ivanovich Tikhomirov, an outstanding designer from Kazan’s “GiproNIIaviaprom”.
Laureates are determined across six categories for achievements that make a significant contribution to the design and construction of industrial facilities, as well as the implementation of advanced engineering, design, technical, and technological solutions. In 2026, the expert jury reviewed around 80 applications. The team of employees from the Research Institute of Electronics (NIIET, a member of the Element Group, MOEX: ELMT) secured an honorable third place in the category “For the Implementation of Advanced Technologies and Innovative Solutions.” The award was presented for the development of a unique project: “Vacuum Soldering Technology of Solder Balls to the Terminals of Matrix-Type Ceramic-Metal Packages.” The jury members highlighted that this technology is unparalleled in a number of its resulting technical characteristics, and noted its main advantages: unambiguous control over the temperature profile stages, reduction of the temperature gradient across the microcircuit package, elimination of potential device overheating, guaranteed growth control of intermetallic compounds, prevention of solder joint oxidation, and minimization (or complete elimination) of voids.
It is equally important that this technology has already proven itself highly effective in the mass production of NIIET’s products. Furthermore, this technological novelty contributes to the advancement of science and engineering, stimulating innovation and the creation of new products and services that meet the highest global quality standards. This is not the first award that NIIET employees have received for this development. The Voronezh scientists’ portfolio also includes a diploma and a medal from the “Archimedes” Moscow International Salon of Inventions and Innovative Technologies, as well as prizes from the “Priority – 2024” National Award in Industrial Technologies across two categories at once: “Electronics and Robotics” and “Breakthrough Technology.”
The competition for the Tikhomirov Award is held annually, and participation is open to creative teams, as well as employees of relevant educational institutions, scientific, design, and construction organizations. The Tikhomirov Award is organized by the Technodinamika holding in cooperation with the Russian Engineering Union, with support from the Ministry of Construction of Russia, the Government of Tatarstan, and the Rostec State Corporation. The primary goal of the award is to motivate industry professionals to create new concepts and to develop the human resource potential of the engineering and construction sector.
